Ekenäs is located in the Southern part of Finland and is part of the Nyland region (Uusimaa).
The town had a population of 14,754 in 2008.
Ekenäs is bilingual, with the majority being Swedish speakers (81%), and the minority Finnish speakers (17%).
It is noted for its group of islands, part of which is the Ekenäs Archipelago National Park.
Ekenäs was merged with Pohja and Karis to form the new municipality of Raseborg in 2009.
